3/4D with enhanced 8k imaging

Your appointment will last 45 minutes in total. While you won’t be scanned for the full duration, this allows us plenty of time to talk through your questions, understand any concerns, explain what we’re seeing, and make sure you leave feeling informed and reassured. No rushing, no conveyor belts, just personalised care, properly paced.

Who it's for

26 to 32 weeks pregnant.

Earlier in this window (around 26–28 weeks), baby has a bit more room to move, so you might catch more of them in action. Later on (closer to 30–32 weeks), you’ll get a more realistic idea of how they’ll look at birth, with those soft tissues filling out into the squishy cheeks and button noses we all love.

We’re happy to try scans beyond 32 weeks if you like, just keep in mind that as baby gets bigger and space gets tighter, clear views of the face may be harder to capture.

See your baby in stunning detail with our 3D/4D scan, now with the option to upgrade to 8K enhanced imaging.

Our 3D scans give you still images of your baby in three dimensions. The fourth dimension, 4D, is movement, like watching a mini movie of your baby in real time. We now also offer HD Live (sometimes called 5D) for even clearer, more defined visuals.

Once you’re past 26 weeks, baby starts to build up that squishy cuteness (thanks, fat pads!), giving us more definition in the face. But space gets tighter the further along you are, so we recommend booking before 32 weeks for the best chance of great images.

The quality of the scan is completely baby-led. If they’re snuggled into the placenta, facing your back, or hiding behind limbs, we may only get glimpses of hands and feet. We’ll do our best within your appointment to work around baby’s mood, and if we don’t manage to get any good facial views, we may invite you back for a shorter free rescan, this is at your sonographer’s discretion.

Once the scan is complete, we’ll select the best facial images and enhance them with cutting-edge AI software to create a beautifully lifelike, photo-quality image in 8K resolution.

You’ll receive:

• A minimum of 2 printed images

• Digital scan footage and video sent before you leave

• Enhanced 8K images sent within an hour of your scan

This one’s a proper keepsake.

What happens

When you arrive, your sonographer will chat with you about your general health, any relevant medical history (especially gynaecological or previous pregnancy details), and how things are going with this pregnancy so far. It’s also your chance to share any questions or concerns, we’re here to listen.

The scan itself is transabdominal (via your tummy). You’ll be asked to uncover your bump and possibly shimmy your waistband down a little so we can apply some ultrasound gel and begin. This part shouldn’t feel uncomfortable, but let us know if anything feels tender or sore.

We’ll always begin by checking baby’s heartbeat and overall position using standard 2D imaging. Once that’s done and we’ve found a good angle, we’ll switch to 3D and 4D imaging, that’s when the magic happens. The best views come when baby has a nice pocket of fluid around their face and no tiny hands, feet, or placenta in the way (adorable, but not see-through!).

If baby is camera-shy, we might ask you to lie on your side, bounce gently on a yoga ball, pop to the toilet, or go for a quick stroll, all to help baby find a better position. And if we still can’t get any good views of baby’s face, your sonographer may offer a free rescan (this is at their discretion and arranged before you leave).

After the scan, once you're dressed and ready, your sonographer will go over what she saw, answer any lingering questions, and provide your printed scan images and digital images and video, sent straight to your phone before you leave.

Then, we’ll carefully select the best face images and enhance them using our advanced AI software. These upgraded 8K images, along with a side-by-side comparison and a short video showing the transformation from original to enhanced, will be sent to you within the hour. It’s worth the wait.

Preparation

Want those gorgeous, frame-worthy images? Then hydration is your best friend. The clearer your tissue, the better our scan quality, so we recommend drinking up to 3 litres of water daily for at least 3–4 days before your appointment. Trust us, it makes a difference.

On the day itself, eat and drink as normal (we don’t need you starving!), but don’t arrive with a bursting bladder, comfort is key. Ideally, empty your bladder before you leave home, then sip up to 500ml of water on your way to us.

Pro tip: Bring a cold, sugary or fizzy drink, or some snacks, just in case we need to tempt baby into a better position. (They can be a little diva-ish.)

Partners, family, and trusted friends are very welcome. Well-behaved children too, though if you’re bringing little ones, we suggest a buggy and plenty of snacks or distractions. Our clinic isn’t toddler-proof, and we want you to be able to relax and enjoy the moment.

Hydrate first. Good vibes (and clear scan pics) will follow.

On the day

Try not to empty your bladder for about an hour before your scan. You don’t need to chug litres of water or be uncomfortably full, just gently full is perfect. What really helps? Being well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment, it can make a noticeable difference to your scan images.

If your appointment is between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, head into Main Reception at Greetwell Place and the lovely team there will let us know you’ve arrived.

If you're visiting outside these hours, when main reception is closed, follow the road through the car park to the right of the building, past the 5mph sign, and park near the ScanLinc sandwich board sign, that’s our private entrance.

Please note: there’s no access to the building before your appointment time.

We kindly ask that you wait in your car or at a discreet distance until we invite you in. This is to protect the privacy of the person before you, not everyone is sharing their pregnancy publicly, and not every scan brings happy news. Thanks for helping us keep this space respectful for everyone.
